What to Look for in the Best Reusable Straws
Straws are very simple products, but you still need to consider what you want out of your straws before buying any! Here are the most important things to figure out before purchasing the best reusable straws for you and your family.
1. Consider the Kids
If you have children, you’ll want to consider getting silicone or silicone-tipped stainless steel straws. Silicone is the best material for keeping your kids’ teeth and mouths safe from sharp steel or glass. Glass can potentially break, even shatter-proof glass. No one wants their kids stepping in glass or getting it stuck in their mouths. Silicone is soft, and many reviewers even claim that their kids love the silicone straws for teething.
2. Lingering Tastes
One unfortunate thing about stainless steel and bamboo straws is that they may add a metallic or woody flavor to your drinks, depending on what they are. However, some people use steel or bamboo and don’t notice any such tastes, so it may depend on each person’s ability to taste or smell!
3. Quality
You want your utensils to be safe for your body. For example, for silicone straws make sure to look for food-grade (or FDA) silicone, or LFGB silicone, which is just the European version of the FDA. The LFGB is stricter, so if you’re really worried about quality, look for the label!
Stainless steel is potentially less risky than silicone, but you should still make sure it is food-grade stainless steel if you’re at all concerned.
Bamboo that is organic, free of dyes and bleaches is the way to go if you want plant-based straws. Since it is a plant, it will biodegrade whenever it wears out (which could take a long time).
And there you have it! We hope you enjoy your bamboo, stainless steel, glass, or silicone straws!
